NRF Scholarship 2016 |
These scholarships are offered for South African citizens,
South African permanent residents as well as a for students from other
countries/ non-South African citizens registered at a South African public
university.
The objectives of the IBS are to:
Build a pipeline of the next generation of skilled
scientists and researchers in South Africa .increase the abilities of post
graduate students in field of Science, Engineering and Technology and in the
Social Sciences and Humanities, at the Master’s and Doctoral levels in South Africa.

Many numbers of awards are offered every year by the NRF in
South Africa
Duration of Scholarships
Standard duration for postgraduate study in any public
universities in South Africa
Scholarships Description / Details
Masters Scholarships: R80 000 per annum
Doctoral Scholarships: R110 000 per annum
Masters scholarship-holders applicants may apply for a
travel grant of up to R10 000 which can be used to attend local conferences,
workshops, and a visit to a laboratory or, any other activity that supports the
beneficiaries’ current research progression
Doctoral scholarship-holders candidates may apply for a
travel grant of up to R15 000, for local travel, and up to R50 000, for
international travel. These funds may be used to attend local conferences,
workshops, visits to a laboratory or, any other activity that supports the
beneficiaries’ current research progression
Scholarship-holders who wish to access the travel grant must
complete a travel grant application form provided by their university
postgraduate office/research office for submission to, consideration and
approval/disapproval by the NRF
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for these scholarships must meet the following
criteria:
Eligible applicants of South African citizens, South African
permanent residents as well as a limited percentage of non-South African
citizens
All applicants’ for full-time Masters or Doctoral studies in
South Africa must be registered or, intending to register at a South African
public university
Applicants that already hold a degree at the level, for
which they are applying for funding, are not eligible

Applications must be submitted through an online application
process to the NRF
Applicants must apply for the 2016 NRF Innovation Masters or
Doctoral Scholarship through https://nrfsubmission.nrf.ac.za
Register or Login using your ID number and password
Go to “My Applications” and select “Create Application”
Select the call for which you are applying to viz. NRF-
Innovation Master’s and Doctoral Scholarship Call for 2016
Remember to complete all compulsory sections of the application
Incomplete applications will not be considered for support
by the NRF

Attach the require documents in one PDF file in the
